Centrally Located at a Very Special Address!
A unique feature of our hotel is that it is the birthplace of acclaimed Austrian operetta tenor Richard Tauber, who was born here in 1892. The hotel and restaurant, dating back to the 15th century, has enjoyed a long history of hospitality. Even then, the hotel operated as an inn and restaurant on Herrenstraße.
Since 1977 the Hotel Zum Schwarzen Bären has been managed by the Nell Family. Centrally located in Linz, the hotel was refurbished and redecorated in 2008 to provide our guests with the modern comforts they expect, yet preserve and remain true to our architectural and historical past. Located next to the hotel’s new entrance on Herrenstrasse, just past the modern lounge and reception area, a jewelry store owned and operated by daughter Evelyn Nell, goldsmith and jewelry designer, can be directly accessed on Herrenstrasse.
“Our goal was to combine structural engineering and architectural design in a way that would provide modern comfort, yet preserve the hotel’s historical appearance and complement the surrounding buildings in the city center”, Architect Ernst Haas
Today, the Hotel Zum Schwarzen Bären is a modern, contemporary hotel with all of the charm, warmth, and attentiveness of a family-owned business.
We look forward to your visit!
